Begin your day with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Watamu or Malindi. After a short briefing, head out to explore the historic town of Malindi. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Vasco da Gama Pillar, one of the oldest European monuments in Africa, and the Portuguese Chapel, which dates back to the 15th century. Stroll through the Malindi Old Town, where narrow streets, Swahili architecture, and vibrant markets give you a feel of the coastal culture and heritage.
After your Malindi tour, take a short drive to Robinson Island, a beautiful sandbank that appears and disappears with the tides. When the tide is low, walk across the sand to the island, surrounded by turquoise waters and coral reefs. Swim, snorkel, or simply relax and enjoy the tropical views. The calm waters and soft white sands make it perfect for photography and quiet reflection.
Enjoy a freshly prepared seafood lunch at a nearby beach restaurant or on the island (depending on tides and arrangements). Expect delicious coastal dishes — grilled fish, coconut rice, and tropical fruits served with warm Swahili hospitality.
After lunch, depart for Marafa Depression, famously known as Hell’s Kitchen, about an hour’s drive inland. On arrival, a local guide will walk you through the breathtaking sandstone canyon — a natural masterpiece shaped by erosion into deep gorges and colorful cliffs in shades of red, orange, and white. Learn about the fascinating local Giriama legends behind this mysterious site and enjoy the quiet beauty of the landscape.
If time allows, stay to witness the sunset — when the canyon glows like fire and the name “Hell’s Kitchen” makes perfect sense. After the sunset experience, drive back to Malindi or Watamu, arriving in the early evening, with memories of a day filled with history, culture, and natural wonders.
